Unless you’ve somehow tapped into Captain Kirk’s teleportation technology, travel is not easy. It’s never fun to stay cramped for hours behind a steering wheel or belted into a tiny and remarkably uncomfortable airline seat. It only gets more challenging if you have a kid strapped in a car seat just eight inches behind your head for hours at a time … or, heaven forbid, in your lap on the plane. But there are ways to make your journey a little bit easier by using essential oils.
Take, for instance, your road trip last summer. You didn’t realize when you looked at the map that those tiny squiggles meant that the road you planned to drive had switchbacks that would challenge the most ironclad stomach. After three hours of left, right, left, right, left … your stomach is ready to abandon ship. Thankfully you’ve stashed certified organic ginger and lemon in the car. A few drops in a car diffuser or on a tissue fills your space with sweet tummy relief and lets you power through to your destination.
Or think back to the time you flew to Albuquerque for a three-day conference. By the time you get back to your hotel room at the conclusion of the last meeting, all you want to do is crawl into bed with the music loud enough to drown out the convention speaker’s voice droning on in your head. And the weird chemical-must smell of the hotel room isn’t helping you feel any better. Lucky for you, you packed a bottle of certified organic lavender and geranium blend and are able to do a little emergency aromatherapy to ease your stress headache and fill your space with calm energy and focus.
Or maybe you are finally on that once-in-a-lifetime trip to Thailand, but intense jet lag is killing your mojo. A jeep tour leaves early in the morning, and you need some serious help waking up your brain to be ready. Good thing you packed N8 Essential’s certified organic Energize blend and a personal inhaler. In just a few minutes you are on your feet and ready for the adventure of the day. No matter how you travel, enjoy the destination more with the help and support of powerful essential oil singles and blends.
Run, run as fast as you can! Let’s face it, you’ll probably catch me within the first two meters because I’m getting too old to sprint. I may be slow, but I still love to run, walk, hike, trot, and saunter – and my hardworking feet do the brunt of the work.
This year I’ve spent more time listening to my body. It’s telling me to take better care of my feet. One natural treat I use is a gingerbread sugar scrub … it’s a deliciously scented combination of warm essential oils, sweet sugars for exfoliation, and natural carrier oils for hydration. But be warned … you’ll likely love it so much that you’ll want to double or triple the batch so that you can share it with friends and neighbors. It also makes an excellent gift.
If you do share this scrub, be sure to let the recipient know about the benefits of the organic essential oils they’ll be using. Certified organic ginger has a natural power to protect your skin from outside threats and sweet organic clove supports healthy skin resilience and is deeply relaxing to muscles and mind.
You can use the scrub to work down calluses and to remove dead skin on your feet (and hands too). Work it between your toes for stimulating and beneficial aromatherapy massage. It’s easy to use; wet your feet while you are taking a shower or bath (or use it outside the bathroom with a towel underneath your feet to keep things clean). Scoop about a teaspoon of the scrub into your hand and spread it across the skin of your damp feet. Massage it against thicker skin and across areas that need massage support. To make the experience feel smoother, wet your hands again as you work. When you are done, rinse away the sugars with warm water, but leave the oils to absorb for more benefits. Follow with a healthy layer of Energize Lotion for a balanced and hydrating finish.
Gingerbread Sugar Scrub Recipe

4 drops certified organic clove essential oil
1 cup sugar
1 cup brown sugar
½ cup carrier oil of your choice
¼ cup almond oil
1 teaspoon cinnamon, nutmeg or allspice

Fall is here, and you can definitely feel it. Red leaves tumble to the ground and the morning air greets you with a crisp bite. There is a transition happening at our house too. Windows that have remained (more or less) open since the middle of May get pulled resignedly closed. The black canvas cover is pulled over the grill like a shroud. Sidewalk chalk and rollerblades are traded for Legos and indoor comic books. Everyone is moving back indoors.
Since we have to get more cozy for the next few months, I make sure our indoor space is as inviting as possible. Essential oils help with that. First, I make sure that the atmosphere in our shared closed space is inviting. When the windows get closed it can be surprising how quickly the air can turn stuffy with the smell of dust and of bodies in close proximity. It’s an easy proposition to fill a diffuser and create a space that feels healthy and clean. These natural scents help my family to be naturally calm and motivated. The season calls for sweet and grounding scents like certified organic ginger, sandalwood and clove. These cheering and motivating scents are perfect for cooler days and shorter daylight. They work to give feelings of natural energy, emotional stability and bright attention. I especially love this combination during after school hours when my family is transitioning from the stress of the day to the slower-paced evening.
In fall, my family tends to gather more often around the kitchen table … to chat, to snack, to argue, and even to play board games (once they’ve worked through their computer time and finished arguing). We love that time together, and I make it better by purifying the kitchen atmosphere with my essential oil diffuser. Although I love my kitchen space, it can sometimes smell greasy or stale from the lingering aromas of meals long past. I create an instantly inviting space by diffusing powerful cleansing and uplifting citrus in N8 Essential’s certified organic Energize Blend. It creates a sweet and welcoming atmosphere in my kitchen and makes our family game time a little more rewarding and spirited.
