Peppermint essential oil

If you tend to hibernate over the winter months, this time of year can feel like a transition. Days begin to warm, sunshine becomes more plentiful and you may even venture out of your burrow on occasion, into the great outdoors. Essential oils can offer support through the physical and emotional shift your body makes from winter to spring.

Start with Lemon and Tea Tree

If a thorough spring cleaning is part of your annual ritual, make it a healthy one. Banish the dust, detritus and litter of the winter without using chemical cleaners in your home or around your kids and pets. Use a damp cloth with a few drops of full-strength certified organic Lemon essential oil to clean surfaces. The sweet ambiance and natural strength of this powerful essential oil will purify your home without leaving a chemical residue or toxic fumes. Try placing a few drops of Lemon into your vacuum so the air movement can diffuse the cleansing scent as you move through your home. Wash pillowcases, sheets, and blankets in very hot water combined with a few drops of Lemon and Tea Tree oil added directly to your machine’s wash cycle. Spritz a dilution with a few drops of full-strength oil and water directly onto non-washable items.

Especially for Bathrooms and Bedrooms

For other indoor jobs, use environmentally friendly cleaning products with purely natural ingredients. Add 20 drops of Lemon essential oil and a tablespoon of white vinegar to 1 cup of water or witch hazel. The mixture can be used to spray on bathroom fittings and other areas prone to mold, and on to mattresses and other textiles to kill dust mites.

What About Spring Allergies?

Spring allergies generally peak when trees, grasses, and weeds release tiny pollen particles into the air and outdoor molds release spores. Depending on where you live and what you are sensitive to, allergic reactions can be intense. The calming, clean-scented power of Lavender is a cleansing and calming support for people who suffer from springtime allergies. In addition to maintaining healthy breathing and strong airways, Lavender’s calming scent promotes relaxation and can aid in alleviating headaches. Diffuse a few drops for 15 minutes every 2 hours, or diffuse a diluted amount next to your bed for feelings of relief.

Try This Mood Lifting Recipe

If you need extra energy to emerge from the winter doldrums, combine three drops of Lemon, two Peppermint oil and one Lavender essential oil in an essential oils diffuser and mist for feelings of emotional uplift, energy and resolve. This simple combination will have you embracing your next sun-filled day with a positive outlook and refreshed motivation.

Now you can bring the freshness of springtime sunshine into your own home with the bright citrus scent of Orange essential oil. Use it to create a cheerful, energetic atmosphere with a sweet and uplifting aromatherapy scent. Or you can apply this hard-working oil to clean grimy surfaces and freshen stale air—all without exposing your family to harmful manufactured chemical products.

The familiar, bright scent of sweet Orange essential oil can brighten any room. It has a fresh, fruity, citrusy aroma and is obtained by cold pressing—a process that involves prodding and pricking the rind of the fruit. The essential oil is collected and separated from the fruit juice by centrifugal force. Oil collected this way has a higher quality aroma than that of the distilled variety. Many citrus oils produced by cold expression have adverse effects of phototoxicity, but Sweet Orange (Citrus sinensis) is not, making it appropriate for use on the skin when properly diluted with a carrier oil.

Cheer Your Space

The bright smell of Orange essential oil is the perfect complement to a fresh spring day. Combine it with complementary oils for an augmented aromatherapy experience. Try blending a combination of Orange, Lemongrass and Peppermint oil for a powerful lift to the mood and to augment your personal energy. Or, mix Orange with the warmth of Frankincense or the sweet mint-and-honey scent of Eucalyptus essential oil and breathe deeply when you are feeling down —physically or mentally—for natural comfort and strength.

Freshen the Atmosphere

Add a few drops of Orange essential oil to a diffuser to freshen a space and eliminate foul odors. With a focus on spring cleaning, it’s important to be proactive about funky smells that sometimes accompany family life. If the smell of sour dish rags or old sneakers is cramping your style add a few drops of Orange to a diffuser and mist to rid a room of the lingering effects of an unpleasant smell. Keep your work space fresh and inviting by spritzing a dilution of Orange essential oil across problem areas. Sprinkle a few drops of Orange across the carpet for a personal aromatherapy experience that will center your focus and give feelings of sunny citrus relief.

Clean Your Home

Orange is a powerful addition to your green-cleaning toolkit. Use it to remove sticky residue in the kitchen—apply a few drops to the soiled surface and rub for absorption. Then simply use a sponge or paper towel to wipe the residue away. Try Orange essential oil to deodorize your refrigerator. Mix six drops of Orange essential oil with a cup of baking soda in a jar and shake to mix. Cover with a small square of fabric and jar ring, leaving off the metal lid. You can also use Orange to clean wood and leather—mix one part olive oil to one part white vinegar and add 15 drops of Orange essential oil to spritz on wood or leather for a natural shine.

For improved focus, a healthier body, less stress and a balanced mood … you’ve got the thyme. You may not yet know that certified organic Thyme essential oil is a uniquely powerful tool for healthier systems and a more natural environment. It could become your next best friend, aromatherapy-wise. Thyme is one of the lesser-known essential oils, but just because it isn’t all flash and glitter doesn’t mean it isn’t full of good stuff—B-complex vitamins, beta carotene, vitamin A, vitamin K, vitamin E, vitamin C, and folic acid, for instance. It’s good for addressing everything from circulation to stress relief. If you wonder how to use Thyme essential oil effectively in your home, here are a few quick tips:

Support Your Circulation

If you experience occasional cold hands and feet, or achiness in your large muscles, you may have bad circulation. As part of a bigger solution, try diluting a few drops of Thyme into a tablespoon of Sweet Almond Oil for a potent and effective massage oil that goes more than skin deep. Apply a small amount of the dilution directly to the skin and rub in gentle, deep strokes across your limbs and toward your heart (or get a friend to lend a hand). The combination of Thyme and a relaxing deep massage can benefit your circulatory health.

Breathe Easy

If you are feeling congested, add a few drops of essential oil to your ultrasonic diffuser, combining Thyme with Peppermint or Eucalyptus essential oil to promote feelings of relief in your chest. Thyme works well to loosen feelings of tightness in the chest and leaves your whole body feeling refreshed and relieved from the sniffles.

Shoo-Fly

Thyme essential oil works well as an insect repellent. You can use it to deter mosquitoes, gnats, flies, no-see-ums and other pesky bugs by using this highly concentrated full-strength oil around windows and doors, or dilute it with a lotion or carrier oil and apply it to your skin.

Monthly Comfort

If you ride the emotional roller-coaster every month, you may want to consider adding Thyme to your support strategy. The sweet, herbal scent is a smart addition to a mood blend, especially one designed to help you find hormonal balance during rough times of the month. Consider combining sweet Thyme with Clary Sage and Fennel for a powerhouse combination to handle monthly mood swings and feelings of physical cramps and aches.

Namaste

Relieve feelings of stress with the powerful effects of aromatherapy using Thyme essential oil. Combine Thyme with the spice-and-wood scent of Lavender essential oil and a drop or two of Cedarwood essential oil in a diffuser for feelings of emotional release and calm, even on tough days. Bring the blend with you to work and breathe in deeply for feelings of calm and focus when you need it most.

If you happen to be one of the millions of Americans who suffer from allergies, you know the discomfort of a sneeze-filled day. Allergies are – quite literally – a headache. Seasonal allergies peak when molds release spores, and grasses, trees and weeds release pollen. But you aren’t safe indoors either. Allergens such as dust mites, pet dander, mold and cockroach droppings all trigger allergic reactions

There is no shortage of chemical remedies … it’s a billion-dollar industry! But, the side effects of medications can be problematic. Using essential oils is a more natural way to ease the allergy burden—or to augment your over-the-counter support. Some of the most commonly used essential oils for relieving allergy symptoms include certified organic Lavender, Lemon, Tea Tree and Peppermint.

Calming, clean-scented Lavender is cleansing and calming. In addition to helping you maintain healthy breathing and strong airways, Lavender’s sweet scent promotes relaxation and aids in reducing headaches. For a topical remedy, massage a few drops of diluted Lavender oil under your nose and apply directly to the skin every two hours during problem episodes, or diffuse for nighttime relief.

The fresh scent of Lemon essential oil is cleansing and anti-inflammatory. It can be beneficial for people who feel allergies most in their head. This gentle citrus oil is both focusing and uplifting – a great combination for those struggling with exhaustion and mental fatigue. Plus, one of the best ways to minimize indoor allergens is by getting rid of dust mites – the most common trigger of allergy symptoms inside the home. Use a damp cloth with a few drops of full-strength Lemon to clean surfaces. Place several drops of Lemon essential oil into your vacuum cleaner bag so that the motor can diffuse it as you move through your rooms.

Many harsh chemicals found in household cleaners have adverse effects and can aggravate symptoms in people who have allergies. If you are sensitive, use environmentally friendly cleaning products made with natural ingredients. Add 20 drops of certified organic Tea Tree oil and a tablespoon of white vinegar to one cup of water. The mixture can then be used to spray areas prone to mold, and across mattresses and other textiles to kill dust mites.

Peppermint oil can help support the airways and relieve headaches. This sweet mentholated scent aids allergy sufferers with feelings of easy breathing. Experiment with different amounts of Peppermint oil to find what works best for you and your family. On a side note, these powerful essential oils are also a serendipitous combination. Try one or two drops of each blended together in your diffuser to get your body through your next allergy attack with natural relief and a soothing effect.

You probably won’t be surprised to hear that exercise is good for your body. Regular physical activity keeps your weight at healthy levels, maintains muscle mass, and keeps joints and tendons comfortably flexible as you age. But, did you also know that exercise is good for your mental health too? Regular exercise benefits your brain, especially when you combine good physical habits with powerful aromatherapy practices targeted toward whole-body wellness.

When you make an effort to keep your body active, it’s not a coincidence that you feel less anxious, less stressed and generally happier. Exercise releases dopamine, changes the stress hormones in your bloodstream and eases feelings of anxiety. But you can enjoy even more benefits from your exercise routine with the synergistic benefits of essential oil aromatherapy. Here is how to use essential oils health benefits to augment that happy-brain effect.

The Routine
The key to long-term fitness is to do it often … even on cold, dark winter mornings when you really don’t feel like getting out of bed. Help yourself by creating a pre-workout routine using N8 Essential’s certified organic Energize Blend. This mix of bright citrus oils and energizing natural peppermint oil will get your muscles and mind in the right state to rock your sweat session. Diffuse a few drops of Energize Blend for 30 minutes before your workout to ease your body into activity, and you’ll likely feel more energized when you step off the treadmill as when you put that first groggy foot on the floor for the morning.

Turning Up the Intensity
It’s not until you get really moving that your body begins to release dopamine, a chemical that plays a key role in mental balance and whole-body happiness. As we age, we lose some of our natural stores of dopamine—but these can be replaced during any form of exercise in what is termed as a “runner’s high.” You can reach this natural state of euphoria faster by warming your muscles with a dilution of certified organic eucalyptus essential oil. The sweet honey-and-mint scent of this oil offers your body a natural boost to help you reach peak performance more efficiently.

Rapid Recovery
Athletes and medical advice both say that allowing time for your muscles to recover between hard-core exercise is almost important as the exercise itself. Help your muscles and mind ease into recovery mode with the mellow floral-wood spice of certified organic lavender essential oil. Rub a dilution deep into muscles and joints for feelings of relief from soreness and stress. And breathe the sweet scent to help wind down emotionally after an especially intense session.

So the next time you’re feeling down, stressed or anxious, use the power of aromatherapy to get off the couch and get some exercise. You’ll not only feel more energized and calm — you’ll be a healthier and happier person. Whether you’re an ultra-marathon guru or a fresh Zumba recruit, everybody could use a little support to take their exercise efforts to the next level.

Your nose is underrated, according to science. Besides being an excellent way to identify wet dog and wasabi, your olfactory sense is a direct path to your brain—emotions, memories, even the chemical toolbox your brain uses to keep your body healthy. Research has shown that childhood memories linked to scent stay with you throughout life. That means the smell of woodsmoke or the sweet tang of orange peel can pull you back to experiences and emotions across decades of time—and this mental shortcut can be used as a safe, easy-to-use form of alternative medicine

When you understand the biophysical mechanics behind aromatherapy, it makes sense that this process has an outsized physical and psychological impact using just your sense of smell. From perceptions of physical pain to emotional catharsis, studies have shown that aromatherapy offers multiple powerful health benefits, including:

Aromatherapy works by stimulating smell receptors in the nose, which sends messages through the nervous system to the limbic system — the part of the brain that controls emotions. By tapping into this master control system, numerous serious health problems can be eased and mental/emotional challenges can be alleviated.

Can I Try Aromatherapy on My Own?

One of the biggest advantages of essential oil aromatherapy is that anyone with a good sense of smell can give it a go. When used as recommended, the vast majority of essential oils are both safe and easy to use. We suggest starting with a simple experiment … breathe the scent of an essential oil directly from the bottle. Take note of how you feel, and how your body reacts over the next several hours. When you find an oil you like, you can also get efficient exposure to using an ultrasonic diffuser. These simple devices use tap water and a few drops of essential oil to fill a room with aromatherapy mist. They also offer the advantage of allowing you to easily blend two or more of your favorite oils for a synergistic effect.

Which Essential Oils Should I Use?

When first experimenting with aromatherapy, begin by looking at an essential oil uses chart to determine what kind of results you want for your body. Is your goal deeper relaxation? Try N8 Essentials certified organic Lavender essential oil. Do you need energy late in the day? Go for our certified organic Orange or Peppermint essential oils. Each N8 product has a nuanced aromatherapy effect—Eucalyptus offers warm focus, Geranium brings a tension-busting emotional calm. The essential oil that will work best for your body depends both on your physical chemistry and your mental association with that particular scent. So jump in and begin experimenting with essential oil aromatherapy … it’s a sweet and comforting way to practice natural self-care for both your body and your mind.

Essential oils have been used for health and healing for more than 6,000 years. Dating back as far as 4500BC, ancient Egypt, Greece, Persia, and other regions were renowned for their aromatic oils. Today, essential oils are commonly used in therapeutic baths, aromatherapy, topical lotions, and various health remedies. Essential oils are concentrated oils derived from the distillation of leaves, flowers, stems, bark and the roots of plants.

The majority of essential oils are clear in color but some have an amber tone such as lemongrass, patchouli, and orange. Likewise, the colors of some oils are light green, yellow and even dark blue. For the most part, essential oils are used externally as in aromatherapy or topically. However, some oils can be taken orally with specialized instructions.

Some of the Benefits of Essential Oils:

Balancing moods, boosting energy levels, helping with sleep problems, relieving pain, nausea and stress, even easing certain skin issues like eczema and dry skin. In truth, the benefits of essential oils are wide-ranging in part because they contain many medicinal properties. Aromatherapy alone can be effective in treating psychological, physical and aesthetic conditions like acne and aging skin. Several essential oils have been shown to have antifungal and antiseptic properties that can be used for cuts, as a disinfectant and for other skin conditions. Additionally, some oils have been known to ease pain and reduce inflammation.

Always Keep These Essential Oils Onhand

Of the many essential oils available, you’ll want to keep these in your medicine cabinet.

Amazing Aroma

One of the best ways to enjoy essential oils is by diffusing them with a diffuser. This type of aromatherapy has a wide variety of health benefits when used properly. Some of the most effective aromatic scents to diffuse include:

The benefits of Essential Oils – CBD Oil

One of the most popular and leading essential oils is CBD. Broad-spectrum CBD oil is one version composed of many parts of the hemp plant but contains no THC (it is non-psychoactive). As of late, there are over 20,000 published studies about CBD and its medical (health) benefits. Equally, cannabinoids for pets are now specially prepared to safely allow your animal to experience the benefits CBD.

Essential Oil Reviews

When it comes to choosing an essential oil brand, you want the very best. But frankly, not all essential oils are created equal. At N8 Essentials, all of our essential oils are certified organic, so you know you’re getting the safest and most pure product on the market. Nevertheless, there are certain elements to look for and some very important features to consider before selecting a product.

Quality

Check for purity and quality. Although there is no standard definition for “pure”, the quality of the oil pertains to many factors. Look for a company that has high standards and uses certified organic oils. The making of the oil will often be monitored from start to finish, for example.

Where are N8 Essentials Oils sourced?

We pick our ingredients from a variety of high-integrity sources. Our essential oils are USDA certified organic. Essential oils with the USDA certified organic seal are the only essentials oils that have any oversight, regulation controls and protecting the environment protocols in place that includes the condition of the soil prior to planting all the way through to bottling. They are free of harmful pesticides and chemicals and are therefore the only essential oils available that protect the earth and the farmer, as well as having complete peace of mind in quality control.

Are essential oils safe?

Essential oils have been used for thousands of years as a natural and safe solution for health and wellness. But it is always advised to talk to a healthcare professional before using products that you are unfamiliar with. Again, not all oils are created equal. Using oils that contain the best and most organic processes and ingredients (like N8 Essentials) is what you’ll want to locate.

The benefits of Essential Oils

Whether you are brand new to essential oils, or maybe they’re already a part of your daily routine, we’d love for you to see the benefits of high quality, certified organic essential oils. There is so much to learn about them and the rewards they can bring to you and your family. The possibilities are limitless.

Nothing can derail a day quite like unexpected gastrointestinal distress. But don’t let an upset stomach keep you off your feet for long. Essential oils can help to ease symptoms, recover your equilibrium more quickly and even stop the trouble before it starts. Try these tricks to ease feelings of an upset stomach with natural essential oils.

Stop the trouble before it starts. Whether you overindulged on Taco Tuesday or forgot that your lactose intolerance actually still includes chocolate chunk ice cream, some gut problems are a result of poor food choices. Essential oils can help tame an unruly appetite before it gets you into deep water, gastrointestinally speaking. Diffusing certified organic grapefruit essential oil or a combination of certified organic peppermint and your favorite bright citrus oil can help to curb an unhealthy or unreasonable appetite and let your brain make smarter food decisions in the first place.

Support your gut from the outside. Often, stomach problems are really muscle problems. Discomfort in the gut is often caused by cramping of the muscles in your abdomen and around your intestines. Ease muscle discomfort from the outside by massaging a dilution of N8 Essential’s certified organic Digest Blend across your abdomen and lower back for feelings of calm comfort and relief. Dilute the full-strength blend with a neutral carrier oil and massage it gently with your fingers into problem areas to ease feelings of cramping and discomfort.

Look at your feet. Lastly, some people also find gut relief by massaging essential oils into their feet, using a reflexology chart to target specific areas of the body.

The next time you feel an upset stomach coming on, think of these 3 easy solutions that will help get you on track again in a natural way.

My best Halloween look seems to be in the morning, unfortunately. Sometimes I wake up puffy-eyed from a night’s rest, making me appear as if I’ve escaped from Hogwarts for the first few hours of the day. As I age it gets worse. I’m not alone – mild swelling or puffiness under the eyes is common as you get older. It is a purely cosmetic concern … in time, the tissues around your eyes weaken. The fat that helps support the eyes moves into the lower eyelids, causing the lids to appear puffy. Fluid also may accumulate in the space below your eyes, adding to the swelling.

But there could be other reasons for those bags under your eyes. They can also be caused by allergies, fluid retention, eye infection, irritation or other causes. For some people, under-eye puffiness can appear just before the onset of their period, with hormonal changes causing the change. Whatever the reason, you can ease the appearance of bags under your eyes using essential oils. Here are a few techniques to try:

Who doesn’t love the young, silky-smooth feeling of your hands, elbows, feet and face after a gentle and thorough exfoliating scrub. It’s like the process uncovers the glamorous china-sleek model skin you’ve had hiding underneath your whole life. But even I have to admit that I often skip this step during my ten-minute bathroom rush in the morning … it feels like too much of a luxury to fit exfoliation into my everyday self-care routine.

But then I learned about sugar scrub bars. Sugar scrub bars are an incredibly easy and healthy way to get access to essential oil exfoliation on a daily basis. They are a (basically) effortless way to keep my skin smooth and looking healthy and young. Using them gives you beneficial exposure to your favorite essential oils and helps to work their healthy constituents past the first layer of dead skin cells for better absorption.

You can buy sugar scrub bars … but why would you? They are easy and inexpensive to make, and when you create them yourself, you have control over the ingredients and essential oils that you add to the mix. In the spirit of the season, I made my last batch with certified organic peppermint essential oil. But you can use any combination of

essential oils that benefit the skin and smell nice (or not).

To make them, melt ½ cup melt-and-pour soap (available online or from craft-supply stores) in a double boiler or covered in a microwave on 15-second intervals. Mix in ¼ cup coconut oil until combined and add 4 drops of certified organic peppermint essential oil (or essential oil of your choice). At this point, you can add a natural food coloring if you want the soap to have a nice color, or leave it natural, which some people prefer. Combine 1 cup sugar to the mix until you have a thick consistency. Pour into a silicone mold, or even a heat-resistant ice cube tray and let cool for two hours. It’s that easy to get everyday exfoliation backed up by the power of essential oils.
