Peppermint’s name can be traced to Greek mythology. Hades, god of the dead, pursued Minthe, a beautiful nymph. Persephone, Hades’ wife, turned Minthe into an easily trampled plant, in her jealousy. Unable to restore Minthe, Pluto made sure Minthe would always be remembered for her fragrant aroma.
