Can you replace the Ibuprofen in your medicine cabinet with CBD?  Is using CBD for pain relief a better option than over the counter medications, especially for joint pain relief. This is not a simple yes or no question.

Ibuprofen is a chemical that reduces pain, fever, and inflammation. Research has shown CBD also has properties that help manage pain.  But they are far from the same.

A little background on each:

Ibuprofen:

  1. Ibuprofen is a manufactured chemical based pain, fever, and inflammation relief product.
  2. It is available over-the-counter and by prescription.
  3. Ibuprofen comes in oral forms.
  4. It works by inhibiting enzymes that cause inflammation and pain.
  5. Common brand names for ibuprofen include Advil and Motrin.
  6. Ibuprofen has known side effects such as ulcers, stomach irritation, and increased risk of bleeding

CBD:

  1. CBD is a natural compound found in the hemp plant.
  2. It does not produce a “high” like THC.
  3. CBD is available in various forms, including tinctures, capsules, and topicals.
  4. It is often used for its potential therapeutic effects. These may include pain relief, anxiety reduction, and anti-inflammatory properties.
  5. The use of CBD is still an area of ongoing research. Its effectiveness varies from person to person.
  6. CBD may interact with medications, so be sure speak with your physician.

Ibuprofen has stood the test of time and does its job well.  I still use it.  When? If I have a headache where I need fast relief, I may reach for a bottle of ibuprofen.  I may reach for diluted peppermint oil to rub on my temples first, but ibuprofen is always an option. And ibuprofen does a wonderful job controlling a fever when used as directed. So it still has a place in my home.

Where does CBD fit in?  I find CBD combined with a blend of essential oils in our Nature’s MD Maximum Strength Relief Creme works wonders on aches and pains.  Many of our customers feel the same.  An N8 Essentials CBD tincture can be part of a lifestyle by helping provide joint pain relief.  Those anti-inflammatory properties that research has found can be a part of your daily maintenance routine.  Keeping the pain from flaring up in the first place can help you stay active. It is natural and plant based, so if you are pumping yourself full of artificial chemicals to achieve pain relief, try CBD.

Ibuprofen and CBD can both have their roles in your life.  CBD is a natural way that research indicates may help keep pain and inflammation from getting in the way of your active lifestyle.  Ibuprofen is there for when you have a fever or need something more to take the edge off.  You may still have a doctor prescribe a higher dose of ibuprofen for a specific condition.  CBD cannot replace ibuprofen in every case.  But CBD may help you reduce the chemicals put into your body, replacing them in part with a natural plant extract.  Natural pain relief from CBD sounds like a win to me.

How you use CBD and ibuprofen in your life may be different than how it works in mine. Everyone is different and what works for me may not work for you. But CBD pain relief can be a natural way to an active lifestyle
