If you tend to hibernate over the winter months, this time of year can feel like a transition. Days begin to warm, sunshine becomes more plentiful and you may even venture out of your burrow on occasion, into the great outdoors. Essential oils can offer support through the physical and emotional shift your body makes from winter to spring.

Start with Lemon and Tea Tree

If a thorough spring cleaning is part of your annual ritual, make it a healthy one. Banish the dust, detritus and litter of the winter without using chemical cleaners in your home or around your kids and pets. Use a damp cloth with a few drops of full-strength certified organic Lemon essential oil to clean surfaces. The sweet ambiance and natural strength of this powerful essential oil will purify your home without leaving a chemical residue or toxic fumes. Try placing a few drops of Lemon into your vacuum so the air movement can diffuse the cleansing scent as you move through your home. Wash pillowcases, sheets, and blankets in very hot water combined with a few drops of Lemon and Tea Tree oil added directly to your machine’s wash cycle. Spritz a dilution with a few drops of full-strength oil and water directly onto non-washable items.

Especially for Bathrooms and Bedrooms

For other indoor jobs, use environmentally friendly cleaning products with purely natural ingredients. Add 20 drops of Lemon essential oil and a tablespoon of white vinegar to 1 cup of water or witch hazel. The mixture can be used to spray on bathroom fittings and other areas prone to mold, and on to mattresses and other textiles to kill dust mites.

What About Spring Allergies?

Spring allergies generally peak when trees, grasses, and weeds release tiny pollen particles into the air and outdoor molds release spores. Depending on where you live and what you are sensitive to, allergic reactions can be intense. The calming, clean-scented power of Lavender is a cleansing and calming support for people who suffer from springtime allergies. In addition to maintaining healthy breathing and strong airways, Lavender’s calming scent promotes relaxation and can aid in alleviating headaches. Diffuse a few drops for 15 minutes every 2 hours, or diffuse a diluted amount next to your bed for feelings of relief.
